Climax is a Kalamazoo County village of about 710, seventeen minutes southwest of Battle Creek at 965 feet. It got its name in 1834 when Daniel Eldred climbed a tree, looked over the open land and said it capped the climax. Settlers came from 1831, the village incorporated in 1899, and on December 3, 1896 it became the first place in Michigan with free rural mail delivery.
