East Leroy is an unincorporated community in Leroy Township, Calhoun County, nineteen minutes south of Battle Creek. David C. Fish settled here in 1836 and his wife named the place Leroy for their first son; a marsh split it into East and West Leroy, and the post office that opened in 1852 as Secillia took the East Leroy name in 1874.

The marsh still shapes the trees. Low spots grow silver maple, cottonwood and box elder that root shallow and blow over; the higher sand carries red and white oak and black cherry around farmsteads, with white pine windbreaks on the north side. Leroy Township handles anything over the road.
