Cereal City Tree Service began in 2015 with one bucket truck, one chipper and Reid Tolliver taking down wind-split silver maples and borer-killed ash around Battle Creek, Michigan the way a line-clearance crew does it: in sections, rigging set before the saw starts.

Plenty of calls now are not about a whole tree. It is the old maple stump in the mowing line, a red oak over the garage that only needs its deadwood out, or a Goguac lake lot gone to box elder and buckthorn. Reid still asks the line-crew question first: where is the tree, and what is it threatening? The house, a fence, a service drop or the street decides the rigging and the price.

That is why stump grinding, trimming and land clearing are real services with their own prices here, not add-ons buried in a vague removal quote.
