Serving Hickory Corners, Michigan
Hickory Corners is the Barry County crossroads named in 1837 for a single big hickory, home of the Gilmore Car Museum and the Kellogg Biological Station.
Local & Insured
Hickory Corners is a census-designated community of about 310 in Barry Township, Barry County, twenty-eight minutes northwest of Battle Creek and a mile and a half above the Kalamazoo County line. Surveyors named it in 1837 for a large hickory at the center of the section. The Reverend Moses Lawrence built on Lawrence Lake in 1834, and Solomon C. Hall put up the first house in town and became postmaster in 1844.
Today it has the Gilmore Car Museum, 90 acres and more than 400 vehicles since 1966, and MSU's Kellogg Biological Station on Gull Lake, with W.K. Kellogg's 1927 bird sanctuary. The trees are still hickory and oak on dry sand.

Why a Battle Creek Crew Comes to Hickory Corners
Hickory Corners caps our Gull Lake run with no trip charge, grouped with Richland and Delton jobs so the estimate comes quickly.
Shagbark hickory and white oak on dry glacial sand keep limbs a century, then drop a dead one. Deadwood comes out first, and we say so when an old tree is sound.
Hickory Road fills with museum visitors from spring to fall. Street-side removals near the museum go on quiet weekday mornings, trucks off the road.
Unincorporated Hickory Corners falls under Barry Township's ordinances. For a tree over a township road, the township hall hears about it first.
Not for a tree standing wholly on your own lot. Battle Creek's curb-lawn permit and forestry license stop at the city line; Hickory Corners answers to its own local ordinances, as noted above. Storm limbs get chipped or hauled, and outside city and village limits you check whether a burn permit is needed that day. More on our permits page.
A limb on the roof gets a same-day or next-day answer at (269) 555-0142. Routine jobs are usually priced within days and finished within two weeks, and after a storm Hickory Corners keeps its place in line.
